The possessive S after Trump is pronounced as [s], Trump, Trumps, whereas it’s pronounced as [iz] after Harris, Harris’s. Why is that? We have unvoiced sounds in English, which are sounds that don’t make your throat vibrate. For example, /p/or /t/. Usually, if a noun ends with an unvoiced sound, then we pronounce the possessive S as the unvoiced [s]. So, we say trumps. But what about Harris? Listen to these sounds. /s/, /dʒ/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/, /z/, /ʒ/. They all make the possessive S become /iz/. For example, Harris’s, Harris. But how do you write Harris’s, Harris’? Watch part one to find out.

pronounce prəˈnaʊns 発音する
possessive pəˈzɛsɪv 所有格
campaign kæmˈpeɪn 選挙運動
possessive S pəˈzɛsɪv ɛs 所有格の「s」
pronounced prəˈnaʊnst 発音された
unvoiced sounds ʌnˈvɔɪst saʊndz 無声音
vibrate ˈvaɪbreɪt 振動する
example ɪɡˈzæmpəl 例
ends with ɛndz wɪð ～で終わる
noun naʊn 名詞
unvoiced ʌnˈvɔɪst 無声音の
possessive S as [s] pəˈzɛsɪv ɛs æz [ɛs] 所有格の「s」を[s]と発音する
sounds saʊndz 音
listen to ˈlɪsən tu 聞く
make the possessive S become [iz] meɪk ðə pəˈzɛsɪv ɛs bɪˈkʌm [ɪz] 所有格の「s」を[iz]にする
Harris’s ˈhærɪsɪz ハリスの（所有格）
how do you write haʊ du jʊ raɪt どう書くか
find out faɪnd aʊt 発見する
part one pɑrt wʌn パート1

今年はアメリカの選挙があり、トランプ陣営やハリス陣営のニュースをよく耳にするかもしれません。
英語には、喉を振動させない音である無声音があります。例えば、/pや/t/です。
通常、名詞の最後が非母音で終わる場合、所有格のSを非母音の[s]と発音します。

BBC Learning English:How do we 🗣️ pronounce the possessive ‘s? #shorts https://www.youtube.com/ […]

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
","_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[160
247

https://i0.wp.com/fujiijuku.heteml.net/0707/eng/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/img_9464-1.jpg?fit=432%2C637&ssl=1
